I completed the Robin with Nest block from the A Bountiful Life quilt a couple of weeks ago.
I was very happy with the changes I made to the robin on my block. And of course those light blue robin's eggs. However, Tammy made a very good point that I had not considered.... the acorns would not be brown at the time of the robin's nesting. Oh well, they are now! LOL
I am hoping my version of the robin is more realistic than the original in the pattern.
So on to the last block I am making for this quilt. It is not in the A Bountiful Life quilt book, but from the original quilt design. You can see it here, taken from a photo of the original quilt top.
I needed to draft my own pattern based on this photo. I started with a rough drawing, actual size, and then laid out my stems.
Next I added some leaves and some flower buds. I saved my freezer paper templates from all the blocks, so I have lots of leaves and buds to chose from!
This is where I am as of today. It is going a little slower than following a ready made pattern, but so far I like the results.
So grab your thread and a cup of coffee and join me in some Slow Sunday Stitching. Check out the other Sunday stitchers over at Kathy's Quilts for her Slow Sunday Stitching party.
Happy Stitching,
Deb

Your robin block is gorgeous! The pieced background adds so much and those robin eggs are perfect! What a beautiful project!
ReplyDeleteWhat Carla said! Your additions/tweaks to the block have really personalized it. The last block looks like it will be wonderful as well. Can't wait to see them all together!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work. LOL I would have never thought about the acorns being green yet...
ReplyDeleteI love the pieced backgrounds adding texture to these blocks!
Beautiful photos, beautiful quilt all in all a beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteIt's so interesting the changes that each person makes. The changes from the original quilt to the pattern are intriguing, and then as each quilter makes their blocks, they make more personalizations which are so fun to read about. Love the robin and the eggs... this might be my favourite block :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that last photo with the threads and coffee all waiting for some Slow Sunday Stitching... enjoy!
I agree you did fantastic on the robin Deb!! Enjoy our relaxing day of stitching.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Just lovely! This is an heirloom in the making!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so enjoying your progress on this quilt. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful project! I like to customize my projects and make them my own too!
ReplyDeleteHi, Deb! As usual, you have far exceeded the look of the original pattern, which uses quite plain fabrics, and have done so for the better! You are awesome!! I have loved each block as you made them. Eileen P.
ReplyDeleteThis is just stunning, well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Robin block - I greatly admire your patience and beautiful handwork! I have never seen the book which is the inspiration for these blocks but I do like the fact that you are making the last block with your own design - fantastic stem and leaves!
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilt block you designed. The fabrics are so pretty. I love that robin block also.
ReplyDeleteYou captured the robin perfectly. Drafting an applique block isn't easy. You've done a great job.
ReplyDeleteYour applique' is very pretty. I follow a few quilter's who do a lot of applique', some on cotton, some on wool and some on both. The fabrics you are using are bright and fun.
ReplyDeleteI love your work. I'm impressed with how you can make your own pattern. I wouldn't have noticed acorns would not be that color when robins are nesting because I am just admiring all the beautiful work instead.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I can't wait to see 'your' block next.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with your robin, he looks exactly like the real bird. Your colours are devine as are your applique skills, very nice job xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful Robin, love the colours. How wonderful you are designing one block yourself, it already looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour work is so beautiful! I love your Robin and the block with the white flower and leaves. This is going to be a wonderful heirloom quilt! I love seeing not only the finished block, but the pictures of how you pinned the pieces for the appliqué - Thank you for sharing that (maybe I can do this too, one day....;o)
