Around the World Blog Tour - by Proxy

Recently I was tagged by Sally from The Objects of Design blog to join the Around the World Blog Tour.  Sally is a wonderful quilter with a fabulous sense of humor!!!  You have to check out her blog - I am sure you will enjoy it!  Now this was not a typical request - it had a twist I just couldn't resist!   Sally actually was not asking ME to join the blog tour, but wanted to know if the quilt diva, Miss Lucy, was interested in sharing her thoughts on quilting with the rest of blogland. (Like I said, a great sense of humor!)  Lucy especially likes her fish blocks!  Check them out!
After much consultation, and some kibble negotiation, .... she agreed.

So, here is Lucy's blog, in her own words......
(she quickly got to work on the computer)
Hi!  I'm Lucy (a.k.a. Lucy-Lou, Miss Lucy, Muffin & Muffy).  You may have seen me around my owner's blog a time or two.  I like to get involved in all of her projects.. but especially the quilting ones!
I've been asked to comment on several questions regarding my input to my owner's quilting process.  I am, after all, an intregal part of her quilt life!
What am I working on?
Well, if any of you have visited here often, you know I mainly work on fabric selection, quality control & inspection, block design, and quilt layout.  Quilt layout is one of my favorite activities, along with very close supervision of her work.
She has lots of projects to monitor!
It can sometimes just wear me out trying to keep up!  Mainly I try to supervise any cutting or piecing going on in the studio and definitely keep track of the thread and handwork done on the couch each night.  It's a lot of hard work and exhausting for one cat to manage!

However, recently I have been working on a self-
portrait.

Looks like me, right?

How does your work differ from others of your genre?
Many of my contemporaries, including the other cats in this household , just spend their days sleeping, eating and watching leaves fall past the window.  However, I am a multi-tasker!  I start the day by surveying my domain with the utmost care... Watching for the mailman and for any squishy mail that might arrive.  That seems make my owner the most happy.. as she whisks it away and downstairs before my male owner realizes it has arrived. .
Of course I must inspect all packages.  I especially love getting into bags of fabric.
She then neatly folds it away, as if it's been there all the while.  She could have bought me more treats instead of more fabric!
There is also quality control - where I make sure I check seam allowances, fabric choices and block selections.

My most important work though is making sure there is an adequate amount of cat hair on all projects - either in production or post-production.  (these are blocks my owner just finished for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I am obligated to lay on them.)
My owner is always working on something.  She likes all styles of quilting and maybe that is what makes her a little different from what I see other quilters do.  She can be working on an art quilt, traditional blocks, or a modern design.  Frankly, I don't know how she keeps it all straight!  I try to help by moving items around her studio when she is not looking.  I just dream about pulling pins out of her many pin cushions - it is also a favorite pastime.

Why do I create what I do?

I must leave my cat imprint on everything my owner creates.
It increases my chances of being on my owner's quilting blog.
My owner creates just to make quilts for us cats... right?  What other reason would there be?

How does my creative process work?
See fabric, lay on it
See a quilt, lay on it
See binding hanging off the end of the ironing board, play with it.
See any plastic quilting tool, chew on it.

Okay, now I get to tag other quilt bloggers for an Around the World Blog Hop post next week.  I have asked Val at Val's Quilting Studio.  I really like Val's blog because she is so creative... Love her colorful work.  I suggested that she have Jackson, her Jack Russell assistant do her blog.  Okay.... he's a dog... but I can't hold that against him - He's really cute and a great helper!!
So check out Val's blog next week for a new episode of the Around the World Blog Hop.
Right now... I need a nap.  This has been exhausting.  Please leave a comment... I just love fan mail!  My owner promises to read all comments to me.

    1. Thank you Sally - and thank you for the invite for my mom to turn over the blog to me... I dominate it anyway! The upside-down head pose is especially useful for thinking 'outside of the litter box" Meow, Lucy

  3. An excellent post, Lucy. I know just what you mean about our jobs as cats on quilts being exhausting. I experience the same difficulties in my own blogger's sewing room. Thank you for educating the masses about the intricacies and doodies of being a cat. Smitty.

  4. HI Lucy! It's me Jackson and my owner Val just let me read your post and I have to tell ya, that even though one of my very favorite things to do is chase cats, I promise not to chase you! I thought I was the only one who found comfort among a pile of fabric. What would our mom's do if they didn't have us around to inspect their progress. I too get paid in treats...especially when I model with mom's quilts!! Well, I'm looking forward to having my own post next monday. THanks for tagging us!! Jackson and Val:)

  13. Lucy my name is Kanga and I completely understand! My owner left two little scraps of fabric on the table this morning and I was able to knock them off the table and pretend that they were little mice for awhile.
I try very hard to shed all year long....isn't it wonderful to leave little bits of our personalities and hair on all of their projects? :)

  14. Hi Lucy, Deb and Kanga (from above) sent me over to read your post. So glad I did. I am not a quilter or a cat for that matter but I have 2 wonderful cats you read your post over my shoulder and wanted me to tell you what a great job you are doing. I also wanted to let your owner know how talented she is - WOW!!! Thank you both for sharing!

  15. Hi Lucy! I'm Charlie - one of six (6) cats over here who supervises every quilt and fabric project undertaken by our subject. (The one who fills the food dish and cleans the litter boxes.) We enjoyed your post so much we allowed her to read it and she laughed out loud and shook her head "yes" through all of it. She thinks those spool shaped toys are her thread and that cozy basket we like to cram our butts into is for her "sewing stuff." We're a team effort to educate her but so far, not a lot of progress! We like how yours is at least trying - clever enough to fold that fabric and pretend "its always been there!" We also think her quilts are breathtakingly beautiful - and you know, "breathtaking" is not a word we cats use lightly!
