Losing a Family Member

Earlier this week, sadly, we lost Suzi.
Buddies

Nothing can describe the sadness of losing a beloved pet.
She was with us for 13+ years and we will miss her dearly.

Give your fur-babies a big hug today.

One More!

Cleaning up in the New Year is always a good feeling.  Whether you are cleaning up your sewing room, closets, or project baskets - it feels good to clean out the old and reorganize.  I think we all do this periodically and I found myself doing a bit of this yesterday... and of course, guess what I found.  More UFOs!!!!!  It's not that I forgot about these projects, I just wasn't thinking of them when I made my 2014 UFO list. :-).  By the way,  I loved Elita's comment on my last post about calling them PhDs (Projects Half Done) rather than UFOs.  I agree that it has a much better ring to it!
So I am adding this table runner to my 2014 UFO list.  I started this in 2010 ( I think) and it is called Uncle Sam's Hat and it is based on a hooked rug design by Polly Minick.  I would really like to get this one done!
I need to finish the applique, quilt it and bind it.
However, I think I will be spending my Slow Sunday Stitching working on the Hospitality Table block from the Bountiful Life quilt.  Thanks again to Kathy's Quilts for her weekly linky party.
Our eldest cat, Miss Suzi, is feeling poorly, so it's a good day to stay close by and stitch!

Happy Stitching!

Happy July 4th Holiday!

Happy Independence Day!
This is a table topper I made several years ago.  It is the center block from a Piece O' Cake pattern called Land of the Free.  I really love this pattern with the red stylized tulips and the flags.  The center, which you can't see here, is a circle with a star.  This is needle turn applique (yes, even the flags) and hand quilted.
Suzi is relaxing on the flag quilt on the back of our couch.  She looks very patriotic!
I started out this morning working on the grapevine block from A Bountiful Life quilt with my morning coffee.  I really like the way this block is turning out.
And finally this is my Sweet Heart block for today.

On July 4th we can celebrate our nation and the warm summer weather - which has returned to the east coast!  Have a safe and happy 4th with your family and friends.

Happy Stitching!

First Block Done... and Signs of Spring!

It's been a pretty quiet week, but that doesn't mean that work on my quilt blocks has been quiet.  But generally it's been uneventful, which is a good thing!  However...... drum roll please......  Yesterday I completed the first block of the Bountiful Life quilt!  I was so pleased with the end result.  What do you think?  The block is called Bluebell Bouquet.
I typically don't plan out all my fabrics when I start a block... I am more of a design-as-I-go kinda gal.  So I never really know what the block will look like until I am done.  I re-drew the birds in the pattern.   These look more like birds to me.
The pattern is on the left, my bird on the right.  I need to add a french knot for his eye.
I am very pleased with my applique leaves.. which is good because there are plenty of them on this quilt!
I also sewed together the first two rows of the Sweet Sixteen quilt.  They look great together and I like the different backgrounds, which I tend to do in a lot of my quilts.  Seeing them together tells me I really need to focus on getting that last block done.
Suzi seems totally disinterested.  Probably because I am taking up room on the bed, which she occupies most of the day.

Finally, someone was very happy that the back door to our deck was open. This is a much welcomed sign of Spring.
Nothing better than rolling in the sun!
This little pot of basil on my kitchen windowsill reminds me that Summer is not far away!

Happy Stitching!
