Slow Sunday Stitching - A Bountiful Life and More!

I have been working on my A Bountiful Life quilt blocks. The current block is called Assorted Bouquet.
This is how the block looked earlier this week.  Lots of leaves in this one!
My husband jokes that I am always making leaves.  This is the life of an appliquer!
Here is my paper pattern to give you an idea of what the finished block will look like. 36 leaves in the pattern.
The block pictured in the book has the leaves all appliqued in the same green.  I chose to add more variety with some darker greens and a lot of different fabrics.
The pattern also has a lot of leaves with stems under the flower stems.
I included some of these and the others I simplified with just leaves, no stems.
Again, more leaves, some of mine without stems.  Anytime I can simplify a pattern, I do it!
We will be thinking about days like this today in the Northeast.  Forecast is for extreme heat and humidity.
Maybe you will be lucky enough to be here...
I will be staying inside with the air conditioning and enjoying some slow stitching on my Assorted Bouquet block.
And also doing some of this as I finish up the binding on the baby quilt.

Stay cool and Happy Stitching!

Deb

  3. Love your appliqued blocks ... when I see blocks like yours, I find myself getting the urge to learn to applique. What technique do you use (it looks like back basting??).

    1. Kathy, I do needle turn for most of my applique. I do baste down most of my pieces to make sure that they stay flat and in place, but they are not back basted applique. Also, it keeps the thread from getting caught on the pins. Hope you take the plunge learn to applique. I find it very relaxing and portable.

  8. Your applique is beautiful. I have a set of blocks with many leaves and it has been much neglected. We are having a heat wave in the Pacific Northwest but staying inside isn't so tempting because we don't have air conditioning here. I am heading out to the deck to find some shade for my stitching time today.

  9. You have selected some very pretty fabrics for your block. You have a lot of the block stitched already. I have never made a start on the quilt but have the pattern.

  14. Love your applique block! Although the heat and humidity are challenging, I don't wish for the snow any time soon. :-)

  17. A very beautiful block! Love the colors you use. This is on my wish-list, but I found out there are two versions/two patterns of this quilt an Australian pattern Civil War Bride quilt and an American one, the book that you are using. Do you have any idea of any differences between the two, any reason you chose the pattern in the book?

  20. Love the header photo - the octopus is great. Lovely appliqué.... I am getting better at the leaves but the ones I am doing are so darn tiny! Can't wait for my project next year - they will be much bigger than the fingernail ones I am doing now. Love that you modified the pattern to fit you - and the various greens make it sing.

  22. You do beautiful leaves, I guess thats because you have had plenty of practice. Mine still have lumps and bumps everywhere but I'll keep at it. Love these blocks, it will be a stunning quilt when you finish.
