Quilt Fest of New Jersey XI

I took the day off today and went to the Quilt Fest of New Jersey XI in Somerset, NJ - about 45 minutes south of where we live.  It's a good show with good vendors and features not only a Tri-State Quilt Competition but also the winning quilts from the 2015 Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival and 19 special exhibitions.  I wanted to share some of my favorites of the show.
Warning..Lots of eye candy here!
Let's start right at the top with the Best of Show.   My Version of a Persian by Christine Wickert.  Gorgeous!!
Detail of My Version of a Persion.  I believe this is all hand quilted.  I was too stunned to read the decription, unfortunately.:-)
Second Place quilt.  I am sorry to say I did not get a photo of the name of the quilt or the maker.  My apologies to this artist.
Saffron Spendor by Pat Holly.  Made of silk, trims and beads.
Detail of the border with elephants.  Amazing.
I don't usually take pictures of all white quilts.  Don't get me wrong, I think they are beautiful, but the photos never do them justice.  But what really struck me about Garden Bouquet by Elsie Sienkiewicz is that she bought this quilt top 25 years ago and just before her 76th birthday last year she decided to make it!  It took her 300 hours to complete the quilting. Wow.. I hope I can still hold a needle at 76!   Amazing job.
Sweetwater Gap Bloodroot by Terry Kramzar.  Love the square in a square background.
Paradise by Rachel Derstine
Detail of the top of Paradise.  Love the quilting in the leaves.
Felicity aka Spargo-esque by Jo Timko.  Love the wool work on cotton.  This won a blue ribbon - Best of New Jersey
Springtime in a Baltimore Garden by Pat Brown. I really like the gray-green background color.  The yellow really pops against it. Honorable Mention.
Snow Buddies by Ruth Powers
What can I say?  I love dog quilts. :-)
Joys of Spring by Ramona Houle
I am interested in wool on cotton since I am currently working on My Enchanted Garden.
Vestments by Mary Chalmers.
This quilt is all wool and is embroidered.
Timeless Elegance by Lee Gravina.
Beautiful dimensional applique.  All hand done and beaded.
Detail of Timeless Elegance
Rodeo by Cathy Wiggins
This quilt was, in my opinion, the most interesting in the show.  It's made from deer hides which she sewed together leaving the raw edges exposed.  She used hair-on cow hides for the applique of the horse.  It was really interesting, but very hard to photograph due to the surface of the leather.
Detail of Rodeo.  It was quilted on a long arm machine.  The quilting into the leather was amazing.
A Walk on the Boards by the Boardwalk Quilters.
This was a project done by a group of quilters from Ocean City, NJ.  Each panel depicts a section of the boardwalk and was based on photos of these historical buildings.
I particularly liked this because it depicts the Jersey shore and my sister-in-law lives in Ocean City, NJ

That's it for my review of the quilt show.  Hope you liked my picks!
Lucy just wanted to know what was in the bags when I got home...
And where was her treat?

Happy Stitching!

  1. Lucy wins for most curiosity wrapped in adorability. And Mona (Joy of Spring) is in my quilt chapter...

  5. Wow, that's some amazing quilting! What a diverse selection of fabrics and techniques, too. Thanks so much for sharing with us! I just posted some pics from a local quilt show in Texas if you want to compare. Also...silly cat! :) My dog does the same thing; you never know where treats are hiding! (Visiting from Let's Bee Social.)
