100 Basket Blocks on the wall...... Take One Down, Sew it Around....

You know the song, right?  Well I have changed it a bit, but you get the idea.  I finished the last of the 100 basket blocks needed for the Lil' Baskets Quilt on Sunday.  It was great to finally get them all done - I can't decide which is my favorite - I like all the colors!
There is something about muliples of small blocks that appeals to us.  Like Dear Jane, etc., right? Here are most of them spread out on the guest room bed before I started sewing them together.  So pretty!
The quilt from the book (Scrappy Firework Quilts by Edyta Sitar) uses a smaller print in the plain blocks.

I  chose a larger scale print by Jo Morton from her Bridgeport collection.
You can see how they look on my design wall with the brown blocks and the rust colors set-in triangles.
Thankfully we didn't get any of the snow that fell on part of the northeast!  It is a beautiful, sunny day here and hopefully these images will be a distant memory!

What a winter!!!!!

I better get sewing!

Happy Stitching!

  1. Oh my gosh, that's a lot of snow!
What fun little baskets! I've been wanting to make a basket quilt for my mom since I started quilting, but haven't yet. Maybe I'll start thinking about it again, they look so fun!

  4. I love your basket blocks and the colors you chose. I agree, there is something wonderful about those small blocks in repetition. Pattern and rhythm and repeat, but so much for the eye to see with the variety of colors. You said "small" but you didn't say what size the finished blocks will be. Just wondering. I've never made a basket quilt but am thinking about starting -- maybe. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Deb those 'lil baskets are darling -- you must have the patience of a Saint!! I especially love how they will come together with the Jo print in between. Very nice. WOW you still have a bunch of snow, here in Upstate NY (Near Ithaca) we've finally melted down to a pile or two here and there -- now for the lakes to begin to thaw. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier -- don't you just love that Aurifil thread! Happy Sewing. Karen

  9. What a pleasure seeing your little basket blocks! I recently made the same quilt and shared it on my blog, but sadly I only made 16 blocks so it's MUCH smaller than yours! Still a fun project!
