Stars In a Time Warp Update - Lots of Weeks to Show!

Hmmm.. where do I start?  I guess where I left off the last time would be good! LOL  I have been keeping up with making my Stars In A Time Warp blocks, but not with posting them.  It's been almost 2 months.. that's quite a few weeks to cover, so are you ready?  Grab a cup of tea....
You can click on the name of the style of block for more information from Barbara Brackman at Civil War Quilts.  These are all fabrics found in quilts before the 1840's.
Week 22 - White Ground Chintzes - a cotton furnishing fabric used in upholstery, but also popular for clothing in the 18th & early 19th centuries.  I used this white background floral print for my chintz.
Week 23 - Blotch Ground Chintzes - backgrounds added to white chintzes to make a different colorway.
This usually created a halo around the florals in the print.
Week 24 - Fancy Machine Grounds - Chintz with fancy printed backgrounds.  Each of these star have this type of fabric in the stars themselves.
Week 25 - Wood Block Prints - simple figures that were spaced far apart. I tried to find fabrics that represent wood block prints in all the pieces in this block.

Week 26 - Pillar Prints - I did not have any of these in my stash, nor could I find any in my LQS.  So I skipped this week.
Week 27 - Quercitron & Aborescent Chintzes - I decided on the Quercitron.  This curious yellow was originally printed with quercitron, a fast yellow vegetable dye suitable for printing.  I always thought these yellowish fabrics in my stash were kind of odd.  Now I know why.
Week 28 - Early Indigo Prints - Large scale blue prints on white backgrounds.  Indigo Blue is of special interest to me since the chemical company that I work for started out making fabric dyes 150 years ago.  And in fact, perfecting Indigo blue dye.
Week 29 - Lapis Blue  Typically red on a blue background.  I just had to make two of these.  I love this combination of blue and red.
And of course, just off camera, my quilting assistant.

So now that I have caught you up on my stars.. it is time to make a new star the this week - Floral Trails.  I know I must have some of these somewhere!

Happy Stitching!

Deb

  2. Wonderful stars. I'm going to use your blocks as references. I'm behind again! Your assistant doesn't seemed to be worried about finding the perfect fabrics.

  5. They're gorgeous Debra! I have that red floral, in the first and third photos! Used it in a Buggy Barn Crazy Hearts on Stars or something quilt. Love it, a Robyn Pandolph if my memory serves me right. Stars are my favourite block and I just love how these are working up. Also love your assistant. :-)
