Pizza Anyone?

This is guaranteed to be non-caloric pizza - so eveyone can enjoy it!!  You might even enjoy this if you don't like pizza!
I made this mini quilt (approx. 14" x14") for my girlfriend Kathy.  She and her husband Tom just opened a brick oven pizza business, to go with their handcrafted bread business.  The name of the business, if you hadn't guessed, is Joshua's Pie.
I worked on this little quilt on National Quilting Day.  You know now why I couldn't tell you what I worked on... (Kathy reads the blog!).  So I started constructing my pie on my work table, building my design with batiks.  When I was pleased with the final 'pie', I glued the pieces down with basting glue.
I then decided on a pieced background....
and squared up my pie section before glue basting it down to the background.  Next I added a simple border and I was off to the sewing machine.
A little free motion quilting and my pie was really coming to life!  This was so much fun.. and really made me hungry for pizza!
I hand quilted the words on my mini quilt and then used a Pigma pen to fill in the letters.  My quilt was done and I was so excited to pack it up and send it to Kathy for her birthday!
Do you think I got it right?  Here are two pies that came from their wood fired oven.

So if you are in Las Cruces, NM stop by the Farmer's and Crafts Market any Saturday and try a Joshua Pie or bread and bagels from The Bakehouse!!

Happy Stitching!

  2. Your pizza looks like the real deal. Love the thread play and especially how the crust looks like it just came out of the oven.

I love it! I just need to find a way to secure the layers on the wall better. She has a neat way but I don't have anyone to help me do it. Take a look at her video. She has some really great ones! Let me know what you think if you try it! I love your pizza quilt! You are so talented!
