Rainbow Scrap Challenge - Me?

I wasn't planning on participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.  After all, I had just completed the rainbow quilt from last year.  And how many rainbow quilts can one have? :-)  But you know how these things go...  you understand.  My girlfriend Karin showed me a table runner she found online that she wanted to make.  And as fate would have it, it was made out of hexies and it was rainbow.  What was I to do?  I have been wanting to jump into the hexie craze... and it would be perfect for the RSC 2015.  So I am in!  And Karin is going to stitch along with me.  What could be better?
My plan is to make 10 - 12 hexies a month to complete the table runner.  That's certainly doable!  You can see the finished table runner by going over to My Poppet blog from Australia.
I am using the English Paper Piecing method to make my hexies with precut paper templates from Paper Pieces.  I used these little gems about 25 years ago (can it really be that long??) to make grandmother's flower garden blocks and it is the only way I have ever made hexies.  I am using the 1 1/4" size.  They are easy to handle and will make a nice sized runner.  If you want to check out their site, click here.  They have an amazing assortment of shapes. Again, no commission.. just like sharing information on good products. :-)
Of course moments after I took those photos, my trusty assistant showed up to see what I was doing....
We got quite a bit of snow overnight, and as you can see it is still snowing.  Probably about 10" on the ground.  This will eventually be followed by ice.  Ugh.  This is the first major snow we have gotten this winter, not counting the storm we had over Thanksgiving.
It's been a crazy week at work, so it's a good weekend to just stay inside and sew. My two snowman pillows were finished just in time to enjoy the storm!

You may also want to get a cup of hot chocolate and go over to So Scrappy to see what is going on with some very talented quilters and the RSC 2015 - this month's color is blue.  I will be linking up there.

Happy Stitching!

  11. I'm so glad you're joining us. And I don't think this challenge is about finishing quilts...its about seeing which color shows off Lucy's delicate complexion.

  13. Love the hexies. A table runner is a great project for the RSC if you don't want to make a full size quilt. The snow is pretty. Of course I can say that since I don't have to drive in it. Enjoy your hot chocolate and your stitching time.

  15. Your hexies will make a great table runner. I don't know if it is possible to have too many rainbow quilts though! Especially not if they are all as great as the one you just finished.

I had to print out a page of papers on card stock as I was out of the papers.
