June is strawberry month here in New Jersey. I have wonderful memories of sitting in a sunny field with my girlfriend spending hours just talking and picking this luscious fruit. The sweet smell of just picked strawberries is amazing. I look forward to strawberry season every year.. So I was really looking forward to working on this block in the Bountiful Life quilt. Which is why I chose to make it next.
I have been working on this block the past week and a half. Taking my time.
I started by selecting some of my favorite small scale red prints. Red is one of my favorite colors.
Aren't they luscious.. Like real strawberries?
Then I started with the leaves, which have an interesting shape.
Next, I started to add the fruit. Can you tell I really like strawberries? Note the strawberry wool pin cushion on my work table. It is one of my favorites!
I hope to have this block done this week.. after I make all those strawberry caps!
Happy Stitching!
Deb
Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your wonderful strawberry block...just love it! I wonder if I will ever be able to applique something as complex as this...I'm back to my peels! LOL
ReplyDeleteKathy, Thank you for your comments and the opportunity to link up. I love your peels! They look wonderful - so much applique I would love to do and not enough time!!! Enjoy the stitching after your very difficult week.
DeleteI love your block. Your strawberries look delicious! Now I'm going to have to go looking for the other blocks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and commenting on my blog! And I am glad you found the other blocks!
DeleteYour block is just wonderful! Especially love the polk a dots in the various sizes for the background. I see you love applique as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteThanks - I thought the dots would be perfect with the strawberries! I love hand applique!
DeleteI'm thinking that those fields we sat in are now filled with homes & businesses. Great memories! Remember the 1/2 & 1/2 in the bottle!
ReplyDeleteKath - it was great fun and I think of those fields often! It was glorious!
Deletei love strawberries too. you are right, there is nothing like the smell of fresh picked strawberries . . . unless it's that fresh picked sweet taste.
ReplyDeleteyour block is going to be beautiful. i really like the pieced background and you've used a fabulous assortment of reds for the berries. perfection.
