A Little Late to the Party - RSC ScrapHappy Party That Is!

So I am a little late to the RSC 2015 for July.  Yep, you guessed it - the color for July was RED.  Love red!!
After I had finished photographing my hexies this month, I realized these looked like lips.  Don't ya think?

We don't take a lot of road trips in the summer.  The beach condo is rented for the season, there is usually too much summer traffic on the weekends, and we just like to chill.  But this past weekend we took a trip to Connecticut to see my brother and his family.  (Sorry no pics).  I got to see some family I have not seen in awhile, in particular my eldest nephew, Sean, who happened to come home for a visit.

But a road trip always means plenty of stitching time in the car.  This was a 3 1/2 hour trip going, and a 3 hour trip coming home on Sunday.  Lots of time for sewing.
Tell me, do you stitch on road trips?
And if so, what is your favorite thing to bring along to stitch?
Applique can be challenging on the bumpy roads through NY state.... but I made due and also worked on my hexies.
I was able to finish my Assorted Bouquet block for the A Bountiful Life quilt. I love the way this block turned out.  Thanks to inspiration from Heather at The Happy Appliquer, I am trying to use more aqua in my quilts.  (Check out her blog - her work is incredible!)  I think the flower buds in this bouquet really add some nice color variation.

I have started the next to last block for this quilt.  More on that later.....

Happy Stitching,

Deb

Linking up at So Scrappy for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Stop by to see lots of interesting projects in progress! The new color for August is indigo.  I need to check my scrap bin!

  1. Love the red hexies! I do see the lips. The applique is gorgeous! You got a lot done in the car. I will occasionally try to do some embroidery, but I have to be careful, I have a hard time with motion sickness. If I look down too much I get sick.

  2. Great reds! I also have problems with car sickness, so I tend to crochet something mindless that doesn't requre much looking.

  3. Beautiful red hexies. They do look like lips! The aqua is a nice addition to your applique block -- bright without standing out too much.

  5. Beautiful hexies. I have hexies as my take away project too, but I don't sew in the car as the busy traffic makes for too many speed changes and braking. I'm terrified I'll drop the needle!

  6. The buds are wonderful but I love that indigo coloured vase. Great smiling red lips. I've tried stitching in the car but found when I got home I had to re-do some of the applique as I didn't catch just under the turn so the stitches were visible. I haven't tried hexies. They just must work.

  9. Your hexies look like the perfect road trip project. And your applique block is fantastic. That little bit of teal adds a spark of brightness. Great choices of fabrics.

  10. LOVE those hexies - such great colours. I like to stitch in the car too. It doesn't have to be anything in particular, just piecing bits together. I'm a newbie to appliqué so I haven't tried that in the car - might be a tad too soon...

  14. Oh my gosh, yes! It does look like lips LOL :) I always take hand work for car trips when I'm not driving. If I don't then I just sleep the whole way, which is not really very fair to my hubby who insists on doing all the driving :*) Men can be such cavemen sometimes! Usually I take a sock knitting project because there are fewer tools to get lost between the seats, but I've begun taking my EPP with me occasionally lately.

  15. Yes I love road trips so that I can sew and just listen to the music. I get car sick when I read but I seem to be able to sew no problems, funny isn't it. Love your applique work, I'm still trying to get my points looking good arghhhhh. The aqua buds seem to make your block pop and draw your eye to them- beautiful
