Baby It's Cold Inside!

I decided after putting away all the Christmas decorations that the family room (where we spend the majority of our time) looked kind of bare.  I thought some nice quilted snowman (snowpeople?) pillows would spark things up in there.  So Friday I started working on some ideas....
I found some cute ideas on Pinterest on which I could build my designs.  My little pillow with wool snowman and embroidered evergreen tree is hand stitched on an old quilt base.  I added MOP buttons and even embroidered a little bird at the top of the tree.  I really like the pieced red border I decided on.  It brought some much needed color and contrast to my design.
I also decided to make two snowman pillows for the chairs in the family room.  These are cotton and wool and will measure 16" square.
I am having fun with these and they are easy to make!  Today I will machine quilt both of these and make them into pillows.
The rest of the snowmen and snow-women will spend the winter on the fireplace mantel.
Along with some snow-angels.
Kathy at Kathy's Quilts and sponsor of the weekly linky party - Slow Sunday Stitching has asked that we post a photo of our hand while stitching.  Well, I just happen to have one.. and she is right - sunlight is the best light to quilt in.  Stop over there and see all the Sunday stitching going on.

Happy Stitching!

Deb

    1. Thanks! The more Christmasy snowmen get put away but I have to leave some out for winter or it would be really boring!!! I think the pillows will be a good addition.

Love the photo of you stitching... what kind of thimble are you using?

    1. It is a thimble from Thimblelady. You actually use the side of the thimble, taking stress off your finger and hands. It is the only way I can quilt with the arthritis in my hands. She has a book and video on her entire process for pain free quilting. I think she is in Australia. Www.thimblelady.com. The thimble is silver so it's not cheap, I think I got mine at a shop on sale.

  3. I always feel like that when decorations come down what a great idea to add some really cute pillows. We rarely get snow so I left my paper snowflakes on the windows. I really like the idea of a table topper and some pillows too! Now to find the time!

  7. I love all of your snow people. I have a collection that I usually only display during Christmas. I am going to have to pack them together and keep them out throughout the winter. I really like your stitched snow people also. They are going to make great pillows.
